SENATOR COLLINS SURPASSES MARGARET CHASE SMITH'S RECORD FOR CONSECUTIVE VOTES

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Senator Susan Collins today cast her 2,942nd consecutive roll call vote, maintaining a perfect voting record in the U.S. Senate, and surpassing a milestone set by the late Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith. Senator Collins has been present for every roll call vote that has occurred in the Senate since she was sworn into office in January 1997.

“I take very seriously the charge that has been granted to me by the people of Maine, to represent their interests and be their voice in the U.S. Senate. It is my honor to do so,” said Senator Collins. “Much of my dedication to public service was inspired by Margaret Chase Smith, who went for years without missing a vote and didn’t miss one until she was forced to do so because of surgery. I continue to be inspired by her example and will make every effort to uphold that important legacy for Maine.”

Former Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith cast 2,941 consecutive votes over 13 years before missing her first vote on September 6, 1968.
