SENATOR COLLINS SENDS DOD INFORMATION TO BRAC TASK FORCES, CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATIONS & GOVERNORS

Washington, DC – Senator Susan Collins today sent new information related to the Base Realignment and Closing (BRAC) process, which the Department of Defense (DOD) provided to her in response to a subpoena she issued for the information, to the community groups who are fighting proposed base closings and realignments in Maine, the other members of the Maine and New Hampshire Congressional Delegations, and the governors of the two states. Over the past week, in response to the subpoena that Senator Collins filed with Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, the Pentagon has released new information related to the 2005 BRAC round

The information that Senator Collins sent today includes written answers from DoD to specific questions posed under the Collins-Lieberman subpoena, as well as information that is now posted on the BRAC website in response to the subpoena.

"At Senator Lieberman's and my request, DOD is posting on its web site as many of the documents it is producing to us as possible. We believe that such public disclosure maximizes the ability of communities to use the information to make the best cases before the BRAC Commission," said Senator Collins. "I am particularly pleased that the production includes what could be some of the first useful information made available by DoD on DFAS Limestone."

DOD pledged to continue this week providing additional information in response to the Collins-Lieberman subpoena. Senators Collins and Lieberman have agreed to allow the Department to continue working through the week to fulfill the obligations of their request.
