SENATOR COLLINS RECEIVES FRIENDS OF THE FARM BUREAU AWARD

AUGUSTA—Late last week, Senator Susan Collins was presented with the "Friends of the Farm Bureau" award for her work and advocacy in Congress for farmers and issues that affect the agricultural industry in Maine. Senator Collins was the only member of the Maine delegation to receive the award for the 108th Congress.

"Agriculture has a long tradition in Maine and is a vital part of our state's heritage. With over 7,000 farms in Maine, it is also an important component of our economy, contributing more than $463 million annually to our state's economy," said Senator Collins during an awards ceremony earlier today.

"I am proud of the work of the Maine Farm Bureau, which has helped to spread the word that Maine products represent the best quality," she added.

"I am honored to receive this award and look forward to continuing to work on behalf of Maine's agricultural industry during the 109th Congress," said Senator Collins.

Senator Collins was presented with the award for her support on issues such as working to increase agricultural exports; tax issues to benefit small businesses; and agriculture research.
