SENATOR COLLINS PRESSES ARMY OFFICIALS FOR REPORT ON COFFIN CASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Susan Collins has contacted Les Brownlee, Secretary of the Army, pressing him to release a report on First Sergeant Christopher Coffin, a Mainer who was killed in Iraq last summer. Although it has been more than a year since the Army initiated an investigation into Coffin's death, the Army has not released its final report on the cause of his death.

"I am extremely concerned when families of soldiers who sacrifice their lives in the service of their country are not given the information they need about their loved ones," wrote Senator Collins in a letter to Secretary Brownlee.

Since Sgt Coffin's death, Senator Collins has been in regular contact with Department of Defense officials encouraging the release of a report on the Army's findings. The Senator recently expressed disappointment when this information was not released by the one-year anniversary of First Sergeant's death.

"In order to achieve closure, it is critical that the Coffin family receive this report without any further delay, " added Senator Collins.
