SENATOR COLLINS MEETS WITH SEEDS OF PEACE PARTICIPANTS

Washington, DC – Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) today met at the Capitol with dozens of young leaders who are attending the Seeds of Peace International Camp in Otisfield, Maine. About 40 teenagers and camp staff are in Washington, DC this week on a tour of our nation's capitol.

Seeds of Peace is an internationally recognized leadership program that brings together teenagers from conflict regions around the world and empowers them with the leadership skills required to advance reconciliation and coexistence.

"What is unique about Seeds of Peace is that it begins where negotiated agreements end—dispelling fear in the hearts and minds of the next generation and preparing them for the arduous task of peacemaking," said Senator Collins. "By nurturing lasting relationships, trust, and teamwork, the program makes it possible for Arab and Israeli youth, as well as youth from other regions of conflict, to become the seeds from which an enduring peace will grow."

Currently, two hundred campers are attending this summer's first session of the Seeds of Peace International Camp which, this year, includes Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank. Since it was founded in 1993, more than 2,500 teens from 25 nations have graduated from Seeds of Peace.
