WASHINGTON, D.C.— Senator Susan Collins recently met with members of the Southern Penobscot Regional Program for Children with Exceptionalities. The group, which includes Maine school superintendents, special education directors, and members of local school boards, discussed several issues including federal and state efforts to address autism.
Senator Collins is a cosponsor of the Combatting Autism Act. The act would funnel nearly $1 billion in federal money over five years for improved diagnosis and treatment of autistic children, centralized research into the causes and treatments of autism and better training for medical professionals and scientists.
