"I commend the men and women of the U.S. Army on 230 years of dedicated service to our nation. Throughout our nation's history it is the unwavering commitment of our servicemen and women stationed around the globe that has allowed Americans to continue to enjoy the freedom that makes this country great. I am particularly proud of the men and women in the Maine Army National Guard who have carried on the longstanding military tradition of the Guard's service to our state and country." In celebration of the birthday the Army National Guard in Maine held a cake cutting ceremony at Camp Keyes in Augusta this afternoon.
In its 230 year history, the U.S. Army has played a vital role in more than 10 wars, from the American Revolution through the Cold War, the Gulf War, to the current Global War on Terrorism.
