U.S. Senator Susan Collins today congratulated the University of Maine’s Advanced Engineered Wood Composites Center (AWEC) for their recent success at the American Composites Manufacturers Association’s Awards for Composite Excellence. The team was awarded the “Best of the Best” award which recognizes the top composite product for 2007, as well as the “People’s Choice Award” as voted on by more than 4,000 industry representatives. The team was awarded for their design of the Modular Ballistic Protection System which is designed to armor military tents from small-arms and mortar fire.
“I am pleased to congratulate the Advanced Engineered Wood Composites Center for their design and innovation,” noted Senator Collins. “The team is truly deserving of this commendation. I have long supported this program and am more than pleased with the results.”
