SENATOR COLLINS TO BE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT MAINE SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS GRADUATION

Washington, D.C, -– Senator Susan Collins will be the keynote speaker at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) graduation this weekend. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 1:00pm, in the courtyard of the school at 95 High Street, Limestone. (In the case of rain, the event will be held in the school gymnasium.) There will be 54 graduates this year.

"MSSM is an exceptional school. The teachers' intelligence, commitment, and academic credentials could open any door anywhere, yet they have chosen to help open doors for students at this unique school in Maine," said Senator Collins. "The students have shown the desire to learn and explore, and to be engaged in the world around them. I am so honored that I was invited to be the keynote speaker at this event that marks one of the most important moments in their lives."

MSSM Senior Class President Sarah Knapp, Senior Class Vice President Emily Williams, Senior Class Treasurer Ryan Casey, and Senior Class Secretary Meredith Martin invited Senator Collins to speak at their graduation ceremony.

The Maine School of Science and Mathematics is a public, residential charter school. It was created by the 116th Maine State Legislature in 1995 as the state''s first charter school. MSSM is a member of the National Consortium of Specialized Secondary Schools of Science, Mathematics, and Technology.
