Washington, DC - Senator Susan Collins announced today that a permanent Port Director has been appointed to serve at Bangor International Airport (BIA). Officials at Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the agency responsible for border safety within the Department of Homeland Security, have selected John Nadeau to serve in the position. Nadeau is currently serving for CBP as a Chief Customs and Border Protection officer in Seattle, WA. "I am pleased that the Department has selected a permanent director for the vital position of Port Director at BIA. John Nadeau's experience will serve BIA well. His work at Customs and Border Protection has given him a full understanding of the importance of homeland security responsibilities at the airport. As Port Director, he will also play a critical role in the successful execution of the airport's daily operations." CBP was created under DHS to combine the inspectional workforces and broad border authorities of U.S. Customs, U.S. Immigration, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, and the U.S. Border Patrol. Senator Collins pressed CBP to appoint a permanent Port Director in response to concerns by BIA officials that a permanent leader was necessary to guide the transition at the airport to operations under the new agency.
