SENATOR COLLINS ANNOUNCES MAINE STUDENTS TO ATTEND U.S. MILITARY SERVICE ACADEMIES

Washington, D.C. – Senator Susan Collins today announced that ten students from Maine have received and accepted offers of appointment from various U.S. military service academies. Senator Collins nominated these students as candidates in the application process.

"All of Maine, and particularly the families of the students, have good reason to be extremely proud of these ten young men," said Senator Collins. "Military academies have long garnered a reputation for turning out some of the finest men and women, who represent themselves and our country with pride and honor. I am confident these student will excel and continue to make Mainers proud."

The following students were candidates nominated by Senator Collins who have accepted offers of appointments to be members of the service academies' Class of 2008:

Thomas Aseltine of Wilton, Mount Blue High School, U.S. Air Force Academy

James Booth of Verona, Bucksport High School & McGill University, U.S. Military Academy

Brent Emery of Westbrook, Westbrook High School, U.S. Naval Academy

Christopher Farrington of Pownal, Cheverus High School, U.S. Military Academy

Robert Gensheimer III of Yarmouth, Yarmouth High School, U.S. Naval Academy

Bret Leach of Castine, George Stevens Academy, U.S. Naval Academy

Daniel Low of North Yarmouth, Greely High School, U.S. Military Academy

Michael Osgood of Easton, Easton High School, U.S. Air Force Academy

Mark Seelen of Falmouth, Falmouth High School, U.S. Military Academy
