Senator Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, announced today that the U.S. Navy has committed to sending the USS John L. Hall (FFG 32) to pay a port visit to the Town of Boothbay Harbor during the 45th annual Windjammer Days Festival, to be held in June. Senator Collins wrote to the Navy requesting the visit.
“I am pleased that the Navy has agreed to honor our state with this port visit during the popular Windjammer Days Festival in Boothbay Harbor,” said Senator Collins. “I am delighted that the Navy has committed to sending the USS John L. Hall, which was built just a few miles away at Bath Iron Works. This visit is a wonderful opportunity for all us to honor the brave men and women of the U.S. Navy and the talented and dedicated workforce at Bath Iron Works.”
The USS John L. Hall is one of the OLIVER HAZARD PERRY class guided missile frigates and the eleventh ship in that class built by Bath Iron Works. It was launched on July 24, 1981. Assigned to Western Hemisphere Group, JOHN L. HALL mainly operates in the Caribbean Sea and near South America, conducting counter-drug operations and bi-lateral/multi-lateral training exercises with South American navies. Western Hemisphere Group ships may be called upon on short notice to surge and replace other battle group units for short periods of time in other areas.
