WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced today that the Senate Judiciary Committee will consider the re-nomination of William Kayatta to the First Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday. The committee is expected to vote on the nomination next week.
Shortly after President Obama re-nominated Kayatta earlier this year, Senator Collins
spoke to the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Patrick Leahy
(D-VT), and asked that the committee expedite the nomination.
“I thank Chairman Leahy for moving quickly to consider Bill’s re-nomination,” Senator Collins said. “Bill has a stellar record, the highest ABA rating, and was reported by the Judiciary Committee last year by a bipartisan vote. I remain disappointed that his nomination was stalled last year by election year politics, but I am hopeful that, once he is approved again by the Judiciary Committee, the full Senate will move swiftly to confirm this qualified nominee and finally fill this vacancy.”
