WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Senate is nearing the end of debate on groundbreaking, bipartisan cargo security legislation authored by Senator Susan Collins, Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. A final vote on the Port Security Improvement Act could come as early as today.
Senator Collins’ legislation, currently under consideration in the Senate, would establish improved cargo screening standards, provide incentives to importers to enhance their security measures and implement a framework to ensure the successful resumption of shipping in the event of a terrorist attack.
