U.S. Senator Susan Collins applauds Senate action late Thursday to extend the ban on Internet access taxes for the next seven years—three years longer than the four-year ban recently passed in the U.S. House. The current moratorium on Internet access taxes was set to expire on November 1st.
“Taxing Internet access would hurt a state like Maine. It would impose an additional and unnecessary expense on our small businesses and place a roadblock on the information superhighway for low-income families,” said Senator Collins. “While I am pleased that the Senate passed a seven-year extension, which is nearly double the ban passed in the House, I am disappointed that the Senate did not go further and pass a permanent ban.”
