SENATE EXTENDS BAN ON INTERNET TAXES

U.S. Senator Susan Collins applauds Senate action late Thursday to extend the ban on Internet access taxes for the next seven years—three years longer than the four-year ban recently passed in the U.S. House.  The current moratorium on Internet access taxes was set to expire on November 1st.               “Taxing Internet access would hurt a state like Maine.  It would impose an additional and unnecessary expense on our small businesses and place a roadblock on the information superhighway for low-income families,” said Senator Collins.  “While I am pleased that the Senate passed a seven-year extension, which is nearly double the ban passed in the House, I am disappointed that the Senate did not go further and pass a permanent ban.”   ###
