WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Susan Collins today was pleased to accept an award from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) for her work on diabetes. Mary Tyler Moore, JDRF’s International Chairman, and George Rothweiler of Brunswick presented her with the award. George’s daughter, Steffi, testified before the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee last year in Washington during JDRF’s fourth annual Children’s Congress. Steffi spoke about her experience living with diabetes.
Earlier this month, Senator Collins, co-chair of the Senate Diabetes Caucus, sent a letter to the Secretary of Health & Human Services with the signatures of 68 Senators that called attention to new technologies, known as continuous glucose sensors, that help those with diabetes to monitor their glucose levels continuously and thus reduce incidences of extreme insulin and blood sugar levels.
