WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Susan Collins today released the following statement regarding the shooting at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.:
"My heart goes out to the victims of this horrific and senseless tragedy and their families. This incident obviously raises serious security questions and concerns, including how exactly the heavily armed shooter or shooters gained access to the Navy Yard complex. I have been to the Navy Yard several times for meetings with the Chief of Naval Operations and the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and access has always been tightly controlled. I will closely follow further developments as they unfold."
