COLLINS ORGANIZES MEETING TO HELP LINCOLN PULP & PAPER WORKERS

WASHINGTON, DC -- Senator Susan Collins has organized an information session for dislocated workers of Lincoln Pulp & Paper. Representatives from a number of local financial institutions will be on-hand to help and advise the workers about managing their mortgages and other financial obligation while they are laid off.

"The closure of the Lincoln mill is a hard blow to the entire community. So it is important that the community work together to help the dislocated workers and their families through this difficult time," said Senator Collins. "Local banks and other financial advisors can help the dislocated workers to figure out how to make ends meet and not fall further behind. There are resources and opportunities available, and information is the key."

The Mortgage Informational Meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 11th from 10:00am - 12:00pm in the Council Chambers at the Lincoln Town Office at 63 Main Street. Lincoln Pulp workers and financial institutions who need more information should contact Senator Collins' office in Bangor at 945-0417.

Representatives from the following local business and agencies are currently expected to attend: Eastern Maine Development Corporation, Maine State Housing Authority, Lincoln Maine Federal Credit Union, Howland-Enfield Federal Credit Union, Key Bank, Peoples Heritage Bank, Bangor Savings Bank, and First Citizens Bank. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Corporation are also expected to attend.

State representatives from Senator Collins' office will also meet with dislocated Lincoln workers during Rapid Response meetings this Tuesday and Wednesday. They will provide workers with information on the reemployment and training benefits that are available to them through the Maine Department of Labor. For further information, workers should also contact Senator Collins' Bangor office.

Theses open-door informational sessions will be held on Tuesday, February 10th and Wednesday February 11th from 9:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 4:00pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Route 2 in South Lincoln.
