"Perkins grants are important to Maine and vital to providing Maine students with the educational resources and opportunities they need to learn and compete in the working world," said Senator Collins. "I will continue to advocate on behalf on vocational programs in Maine and across the country. Vocational and technical education often leads to good-paying jobs and helps to ensure we have a skilled workforce."
Last year, Maine received approximately $5.8 million in Perkins Voc Ed State Grants and another $536,000 under the Perkins Tech-Prep State Grants program. Of the state grant, approximately $2.3 million will go to community colleges in Maine, and $2.3 million will go to high school programs.
According to America's Career Resource Network Association, virtually every high school in Maine is served by Perkins funds. The funding helps to provide resources for programs such as TRIO, Gear Up, Jobs for Maine's Graduates, and school Career Centers.
