CHAIRMAN COLLINS RELEASES STATEMENT ON DHS DECISION TO AWARD SECURE BORDER INITIATIVE CONTRACT TO BOEING

WASHINGTON, DC-- Senator Susan Collins, Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, today released the following statement in response to the announcement that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded the Secure Border Initiative (SBINet) contract to Boeing Co.               “The Secure Border Initiative is a vital element in the strategy to better secure our homeland by strengthening border security. The award of the SBINet contract advances the goal of developing the right mix of personnel, infrastructure, and technology to improve security along all 6,000 miles of our northern and southern borders, beginning with a sector in Arizona.  This initiative should greatly improve situational awareness of border patrol agents by giving them access to a wide range of information from ground-based radar, surveillance towers, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other technology.  I will be closely following implementation of SBINet.”
