BIW OFFICIALS TO BRIEF SENATOR SUSAN COLLINS ON STATUS OF SHIPBUILDING PROGRAMS AND FUTURE NEEDS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Susan Collins will attend a briefing tomorrow by BIW officials scheduled for Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Bath Iron Works. Senator Collins will receive a full briefing from BIW President Allan Cameron.

As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and the Seapower Subcommittee, Senator Collins receives periodic updates from BIW regarding the status of shipbuilding programs, contracts, research and development, and future developments at the yard.

"The information I receive regarding BIW and the work that is being done here on behalf of our national defense is invaluable to me in my work on both the full Armed Services Committee and the Seapower Subcommittee," said Senator Collins.

The Senator also will be discussing the upcoming deliberations on the FY04 Defense Authorization bill. Earlier this week, she met with the Naval Chief of Operations, Admiral Vern Clark, and questioned Secretary Rumsfeld during an Armed Services Committee hearing about future shipbuilding.
