$750,000 GRANT FOR KINGFIELD WATER SUPPLY; POLAND SPRING FACILITY

Today, U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins announced a $750,000 grant to the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments from the U.S. Economic Development Administration for the development of a new public water supply well and replacement of deteriorated pipelines to serve the proposed Poland Spring bottling facility in Kingfield.               “This is exciting news for our state and especially for the people of the Kingfield area,” Senators Snowe and Collins said today. “This money will help bring new jobs and an expanded presence for Poland Springs in the state.  We applaud the efforts of all of those who worked together to ensure that this project moves forward.”               Poland Spring currently owns and operates bottling facilities in the towns of Hollis and Poland and new sources are currently being developed in the northern and western portion of the state, which will support the construction of the facility to be located in the Town of Kingfield. The project is expected to include a 200,000 sq foot manufacturing facility built on 315 acres, along with four spring-water withdrawal sites on a separate parcel and approximately four miles of pipelines. Also, Poland Springs expects at least 60 jobs to be created initially because of the project with upward of 55 jobs added in the future.   ###
