U.S. NAVY ACCEPTS SENATOR COLLINS’ REQUEST FOR MAINE PORT VISITS U.S.S. IWO JIMA TO ATTEND PORTLAND 4th OF JULY CELEBRATION

Washington, DC –Senator Susan Collins today announced that the U.S. Navy is sending the U.S.S. Iwo Jima (LHA 7) to the Portland 4th of July Celebration this summer. The ship is scheduled to be in Portland from July 1st – 5th.

"It is an honor for the entire state of Maine and the city of Portland to host a Navy ship during the Fourth of July Celebration. This ship visit will add a unique experience for all who attend the celebration," said Senator Collins. "Further, this ship visit will provide the opportunity for the dedicated members of the U.S. Navy to meet the citizens they protect."

Senator Collins is a Member of the Seapower Subcommittee of the Senate Armed Services Committee, which has oversight over many naval programs including shipbuilding.
