SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE NEARLY $1.2 MILLION FOR MAINE HEALTH SERVICES

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $1,195,511 in grants to various entities throughout Maine.

"The Department of Health and Human Services has long supported programs that augment healthcare and research in Maine," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "The services that the recipient entities provide to communities across the state are essential to the health and well being of Mainers."

The following have been awarded funding:

• $399,998 to the Maine Department of Human Services for the State Planning Grants Program and $110,000 for a study on Maine refugee school impact • $245,516 to the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor to upgrade facilities • 40,000 to the Harrington Family Health Center to assist in expansion • $399,997 to the Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program

The Department of Health and Human Services is the United States government''s principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. HHS works closely with state and local governments and administers more grant dollars than all other federal agencies combined.
