SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE NEARLY $1 MILLION IN FUNDING FOR MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that Maine has been awarded $967,467 in rural development grants and loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

"It is encouraging to see the USDA's continued support of rural communities throughout Maine," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "The funding awarded to the centers in Whindham will allow them to continue to offer invaluable services to individuals in need. In Wilton, the town will be able to more easily sustain 60 jobs due to the USDA rural development program grant."

The federal funding was allocated as follows: • $650,000 loan to the Riding To The Top Therapeutic Riding Center to improve the Whindham facility to allow for year round therapeutic riding for physically and mentally challenged individuals.

• $250,000 loan to the Pine Tree Alcoholism Treatment Center for Women to expand the current facility located in Whindham to allow for additional residential treatment programs for chemically dependent women and their families.

• $67,467 grant to the Town of Wilton in rural business enterprise grants to establish a revolving loan fund for the town. This funding is expected to create or save 60 jobs in Wilton.
