WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that the Jackson Laboratory of Bar Harbor was awarded $332,640 by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). NIDDK is a part of Federal government's National Institutes of Heath (NIH) founded under U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS).

"The research being done by the Jackson Laboratory provides invaluable insight into a wide range of diseases," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "We are grateful for the funds that HHS continues to make available to foster a greater understanding of diseases and to improve the means for treatment and prevention of those diseases."

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has invested for over 50 years in research to help understand metabolic diseases, such as diabetes, digestive diseases, such as hepatitis, and kidney diseases, such as kidney failure. This research has helped to save countless lives and continues to provide information crucial to combating destructive diseases.
