WASHINGTON, D.C.-U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) announced today that the National Park Service has allocated $141,525 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) to Maine for park and recreational facility renovations in the towns of Casco and St. Agatha.
“Maine’s parks are one of its most precious resources, facilitating outdoor recreation and enhancing quality of life,” said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. “These funds from the Land and Water Conservation Fund will be instrumental in improving and expanding park and recreational facilities in the towns of Casco and St. Agatha, thus encouraging more Maine residents to be healthy and active.”
The funding will be distributed as follows:
· $100,000 for Sebago Lake State Park. The funding will be used to construct a new, ADA accessible, restroom facility at the day use beach area. This is the fourth LWCF project at Sebago Lake State Park and improvements made under this grant will increase the public’s enjoyment of this popular facility.
· $41,525 for Town of St. Agatha. The town will use this funding help construct a double tennis court on some donated property. In addition to the courts, the town will improve access by developing a public parking area.
The Land and Water Conservation Fund is a partnership program that provides matching funds to states and local communities for acquisition, development, and conservation of parks and open space. The program is administered by National Park Service in partnership with state governments.
