SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION GRANTS FOR MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that two Maine tribes have been awarded $355,896 in grants from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Tribal Wildlife Grants Program.

"This funding will help tribes implement conservation projects designed to protect fish and wildlife resources," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "The partnership between the federal government and Indian tribes allows for wildlife conservation while respecting the wildlife priorities of the tribes."

The federal funds were allocated as follows:

• $105,896 to the Passamaquoddy Tribe (Pleasant Point Reservation) to restore native sea-run fish in the Little River and Boyden Lake. Specifically, funds will be used to repair a fish ladder and install an eel passageway at the Passamaquoddy Water District dam in the Little River.

• $250,000 to the Aroostook Band of Micmacs for acquiring land to permanently protect natural resources of traditional importance to the Tribe.
