SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE DRUG PREVENTION GRANTS FOR MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that Maine has been awarded $287,399 from the Drug-Free Communities Support Program. These competitive grants are distributed through the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

"The grants announced today will allow these programs to expand their drug prevention efforts in Maine," Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. The federal funding was allocated as follows:

• $100,000 to the River Coalition, Inc. for the Comprehensive Community Prevention Plan, which utilizes research-based prevention strategies to increase individual, peer, family, school, and community protective factors to strengthen pro-social behavior.

• $99,960 to the Central Maine Community Health Corporation, Healthy Androscoggin for Project Unite!, which utilizes a three-tiered approach to a public health prevention plan that creates a continuum of care from prevention to treatment and is extensive in nature and scope.

• $87,439 to the Millinocket Regional Hospital, Rehabilitation and Wellness Services for "Collaboration for Drug Free Communities in Northern Penobscot County Maine," which will provide programs, services, and research to reduce substance abuse.
