SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE $6.6 MILLION IN HEALTH GRANTS FOR MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded various entities in Maine a total of $6,662,199 in funding for health programs.

"Health grants awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services allow programs throughout the state to proactively address many of Maine citizens' health needs," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.

The funds will be allocated as follows:

• Cultivating Community in Portland has been awarded $50,000 for a Community and Food Nutrition Program • Sisters of Charity Health System in Lewiston has been awarded $49,600 for a Community Food and Nutrition Program • Maine Medical Center in Portland has been awarded $1,794,941 for a COBRE in Vascular Biology Project • The Maine Department of Health and Human Services has been awarded $2,564,610 to the for a Real Choice Systems Change Grants Program and $130,816 for a State Partnership Grant Program for Minority Health • Franklin Community Health Network in Farmington has been awarded $997,360 for a Healthy Communities Access Program • Maine General Health Associates in Gardiner has been awarded $77,512 for Ryan White Title III HIV Capacity Development and Planning Grants

The Department of Health and Human Services is the United States government''s principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. HHS works closely with state and local governments and administers more grant dollars than all other federal agencies combined.
