SNOWE & COLLINS ANNOUNCE $4.4 MILLION FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN BANGOR, AUBURN, LEWISTON, SOUTH PORTLAND

Washington, DC – Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that four Maine cities will receive a total $4,446,772 in federal grants for affordable housing. The grants are awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

"These grants will help to provide decent and affordable housing to low and moderate income Mainers living in Maine's largest cities," said the Senators in a joint statement. "There is little that is more important to a family than having a safe and decent place to call home. We continue to work to secure the resources necessary to create more affordable housing in Maine and to help families that may need assistance."

The funding for the following cities comes from of Community Development Block Grant and HOME programs:

· Bangor - $1,252,000 · Auburn - $1,401,772 · Lewiston - $1,251,000 · South Portland - $542,000
