"Our state homeland security agencies and local first responders face increased demands due to a heightened awareness of the threat of terrorism. These funds will help to ensure that we are better prepared to prevent and respond to a terrorist attack, as well as any other mass public crisis or natural disaster," said the Senators in a joint statement.
EMPG's provide states the flexibility to allocate funds according to risk vulnerabilities and to address the most urgent state and local needs in disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. FEMA will distribute $173.5 million in grants nationwide next year, to help state and local governments better prepare to respond to all-hazards preparedness activities and emergency management.
