"This funding will help to close gaps in existing services to improve child safety, increase abstinence, reduce substance abuse, improve health and mental status, and improve housing and employment stability for at-risk individuals in Maine communities," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.
The State of Maine District Court will use this funding to establish a comprehensive substance abuse treatment with wraparound services model as a resource to Maine's pilot Family Treatment Drug Court. The program will serve some rural areas in Maine that experience high rates of multigenerational poverty, unemployment, domestic violence, substance abuse, depression, and other mental health problems as well as child abuse and neglect.
The model will comprise the services of many specialists who will focus on all aspects of the individual, rather than just the symptoms. All components will utilize a whole, family, strength-based philosophy. The project will design and demonstrate a model transdisciplinary, intensive family therapy treatment program.
