SNOWE AND COLLINS ANNOUNCE $275,000 HHS GRANT TO EXPAND THE N.E. ALLIANCE FOR ADDICTION RECOVERY

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that the New England Institute for Addiction Studies, based in Augusta, will receive a $275,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to fund expansions of the New England Alliance for Addiction Recovery (NEAAR).

"NEAAR is an exciting new program that provide essential services for families in Maine," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.

NEAAR is an new initiative in the region, supported by the New England Institute of Addiction Studies, that is just beginning its development in the six New England states. NEAR serves as an information network for recovering alcoholics and addicts, along with their friends and family members. NEAR's goal is to create a forum for support and advocacy for addiction recovery and a voice for the recovering community. The New England Institute of Addiction Studies has been in existence for almost 30 years. It is dedicated to the education of professionals, volunteers, and the general public concerning alcohol and drug prevention and treatment issues. The Institute is the primary organization through which the State Alcohol and Drug Agencies develop and deliver regional educational events.
