"As the 9/11 terrorist attacks showed, when a disaster strikes, it is crucial that police, fire, and medical crews are able to communicate with each other and among the different agencies. First responders must be able to rely on their communications systems to coordinate their responses and to keep each other safe," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "This grant will help first responders in Bangor to better coordinate their actions in emergency situations, to better protect the community and themselves."
The Interoperable Communications Technology Grant program in intended to encourage and increase the number of integrated communications systems used by law enforcement, fire service, and emergency medical service agencies in the same metropolitan area. The grants are awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
