SENATORS SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $3 MILLION IN NATIVE AMERICAN HOUSING FUNDING

  U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins announced today that four Native American tribes will be receiving a combined $3,037,782 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as part of the Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) Program.  The funds will be used to provide a variety of affordable housing activities.   “This grant funding will greatly benefit our Native American communities by assisting with the creation and maintenance of safe and affordable housing” noted Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.  “We are excited to announce this funding because it will do much good for so many people.”   Funding will allocated as follows:   Aroostook Band of Micmacs                            $593,728.00 Passamaquoddy Tribe, Indian Township          $643,638.00 Penobscot Tribe of Maine                                 $1,053,840.00 Passamaquoddy Tribe, Pleasant Point               $746,576.00   The Department of Housing and Urban Development allows the grant funding to be used for operating assistance for existing housing as well as the creation of new affordable housing developments.
