U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded the Maine Department of Public Safety $5,625,000 in grant funding as part of the Community Oriented Policing Service (COPS) Technology Program. Funding from the COPS program is designed to provide funding to law enforcement agencies for the procurement of technology that focuses on data sharing and interoperability.
“The Department of Justice funds will help improve Maine’s ability to address criminal justice issues,” said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. “The grant funding going to the Maine Department of Public Safety will help enhance services that will make communities of Maine safer.”
