SENATOR SUSAN COLLINS HONORED FOR HER WORK TO EXPAND ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE BY NATIONAL GROUP

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Association of Community Health Centers today presented Senator Susan Collins with the 2002 Distinguished Community Health Defender Award for her, "ongoing commitment to strengthen America's health centers and expand access to affordable health care for millions of medically underserved Americans."

"I am honored to receive recognition for my work on behalf of the millions of Americans who are uninsured," said Senator Collins. "One of my top priorities in the Senate has been to expand access to affordable health care for all Americans. There are still far too many Americans without health insurance, including more than 150,000 people in Maine. Clearly, we must do more to make health insurance more available and affordable. I pledge to continue my efforts toward that goal."

The National Association of Community Health Centers is the national trade association serving and representing the interests of America's community health centers. Community Health Centers are not-for-profit providers of health care to America's poor and medically undeserved.
