"I was an early cosponsor of campaign finance reform and worked hard alongside my Senate colleagues John McCain and Russ Feingold to pass a law banning soft money, a growing wave of large, unrelated contributions that has threatened to swamp our campaign finance system and has undermined confidence in our system of elections," said Senator Collins. "The court's decision is a major disappointment, and I hope it will be reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court."
Senator Collins noted that the campaign finance law provides for an expedited appeal to the Supreme Court.
"I was pleased, however, to see that the Court left intact the "Stand by Your Ad" provision that I authored with Senator Wyden."
