SENATOR SUSAN COLLINS CONGRATULATES PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD, RECIPIENT OF ENERGY CONSERVATION AWARD

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Susan Collins has received notification that the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery has been recognized by the Secretary of the Navy as a recipient of an Energy Efficiency Award from the Department of Energy''s Federal Energy and Water Management Program.

"I am very impressed with the employees of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard," said Senator Collins. "Not only do they provide critical support to the United States Navy, but they do so while conserving precious natural resources!"

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is joined by 20 other award recipients, who, together, have reduced energy use more than 26 percent since 1985. Secretary of the Navy Gordon England applauded the work of the energy teams. "Despite the attacks of those who would threaten us, Americans have pulled together. Those who have led the naval services in energy conservation program have provided a powerful symbol of this unity and determination," England said. "In a time of war, our men and women have not set energy concerns aside. Instead, they've focused on the future, saved resources and made the Navy and Marine Corps stronger."

"I am proud to be an advocate of the work produced by the Shipyard's dedicated workforce and leaders, and I look forward to seeing that the yard continues to serve the nation's naval fleet for many years to come," said Senator Collins.
