“School counselors in Maine and across the country play an important role in our education system.  They help students focus on academic, social, and career development so that they can achieve their goals and become successful members of their communities,” said Senator Collins.  “I was delighted to meet with Kelly and congratulate her on this extraordinary achievement for the dedication and compassion she has shown to countless students at George B. Weatherbee Elementary School.”

The U.S. Senate unanimously approved a resolution, authored by Senators Collins and Patty Murray (D-WA), designating February 4 through February 8 as “National School Counseling Week.”  The resolution seeks to increase awareness of the important and necessary role school counselors play in the lives of students in the United States.
