SENATOR COLLINS CONGRAULATES INDIAN TOWNSHIP PASSAMAQUODDY TRIBAL GOVERNMENT AT GROUNDBREAKING OF NEW WATER AND WASTE TREATMENT FACILITY

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Susan Collins offered her congratulations to the Indian Township Passamaquoddy Tribal Government during a groundbreaking ceremony held today to commemorate important water and waste treatment upgrades underway at its facility in Indian Township.               The $7 million project will remove a health hazard, and serve a population of 676.  Through the appropriations process for State and Tribal Assistance Grants, Senator Collins was able to secure $250,000 in fiscal years 2004 and again in 2005 for the much needed project.               “It is with great pleasure that I congratulate Chief Robert Newell, Lieutenant Governor Joseph Socobasin, and Robert Tyler, who worked hard over several years to address this health problem,” said Senator Collins.  “This project will make a tremendous difference in their community.  This is an excellent example of the results that can be accomplished when many funding streams are tapped and agencies work together.”               The upgraded facility is being dedicated to the memory of Darryl John Nicholas, Sr.—also known as “Pineapple”—who passed away last month.   ###
