"The 94th MP Company has had its deployment orders extended twice in support of operations in Iraq, and they have been mobilized two and a half of the past four years. These soldiers have gone above and beyond in serving the country and helping to create a better life for the Iraqi people," said Senator Collins.
Senator Collins will also host a meeting in the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee Room on Monday afternoon, June 7th. Members of the Maine and New Hampshire Congressional Delegations have been invited to attend.
"I want these families to know that they have a voice on Capitol Hill and that they have our support," said Senator Collins. "It is also important that they have the opportunity to meet in person with military officials, to express directly to them their concerns about their loved ones who are serving in Iraq."
The 94th Military Police Company includes around 20 army reserve soldiers from Maine. The unit was scheduled to return to the U.S. in April, after a year in Iraq, but their return was delayed when the Defense Department extended the company's deployment for at least another 90 days. Senator Collins has expressed her concern that the 94th Company is being unfairly overused to a number of high-ranking Pentagon officials, including Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Deputy Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Richard Myers.
