WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today announced that a contract of $25,593,208 has been awarded to Creative Apparel of Belfast from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to make chemical protective suits for the military.
“I am pleased that, once again, Creative Apparel has received this contract and that this Maine company is contributing to our national defense,” said Senator Collins. “It is absolutely vital that the men and women serving in our armed forces have access to the most advanced protective gear possible so that they are better protected during combat.”
Creative Apparel, co-owned by the Passamaquoddy Tribe Indian Township and J &S Apparel, will use the funds to manufacture chemical suits for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps.
The Joint Service Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology, or JSLIST, consists of a two piece garment that features state-of-the-art protective lining technology which provides increased protection against chemical attacks.
DLA is a component of the Department of Defense and provides worldwide logistics support for the military, as well as other federal agencies, foreign governments, and international organizations.
