Senator Collins Announces $2.2 Million to Support Affordable Housing Efforts in Maine Amid COVID-19

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Housing Appropriations Subcommittee, announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded a total of $2,228,481 to public housing agencies across the state to support affordable housing and bolster COVID-19 prevention and response efforts throughout the State of Maine.  This second installment of supplemental funding was awarded through a provision of the CARES Act that Senator Collins authored that directed $48.5 billion to support transportation and housing programs throughout the country.

 

“To fight the COVID-19 pandemic, additional resources are vital to help bolster Maine’s housing programs that serve the most vulnerable members of our society,” said Senator Collins.  “This important funding will support affordable housing and bolster COVID-19 prevention and response efforts throughout Maine.

 

The funding was awarded through the Housing Choice and Voucher (HCV) Program and was allocated as follows:

·       Fort Fairfield Housing Authority received $20,187

·       Portland Housing Authority received $435,158

·       Presque Isle Housing Authority received $12,049

·       Lewiston Housing Authority received $194,281

·       Brunswick Housing Authority received $70,841

·       Auburn Housing Authority received $93,376

·       Waterville Housing Authority received $59,889

·       Housing Authority City of Bangor received $74,342

·       Sanford Housing Authority received $121,374

·       The Housing Authority of the City of Westbrook received $224,685

·       Old Town Housing Authority received $36,357

·       Bath Housing Authority received $27,546

·       South Portland Housing Authority received $88,649

·       Brewer Housing Authority received $22,610

·       Caribou Housing Authority received $28,948

·       Ellsworth Housing Authority received $58,306

·       Biddeford Housing Authority received $32,207

·       Augusta Housing Authority received $69,761

·       Maine State Housing Authority received $547,909

 

The HCV Program provides funding to public housing agencies to maintain normal operations and take other necessary actions as they continue to be impacted by COVID-19.  The total CARES Act supplemental appropriations for the HCV Program is $1.25 billion.  The second allocation of CARES Act appropriations for the HCV Program is approximately $472 million in supplemental administrative fees.
