Senator Collins’ Fourth of July Statement

Washington, D.C.—In advance of Independence Day, U.S. Senator Susan Collins issued the following statement.

“On Independence Day, we celebrate the anniversary of our nation and express gratitude to the founding generation of Americans who risked everything so that we could live in freedom.

“We also give thanks to all of the Americans who answered the call to serve and sacrifice for the ideals of our founding.  Throughout our history and around world, men and women of United States armed forces defended freedom against all threats.

The Founders did not—could not—create a perfect system of government.  Instead, they created a nation that empowers those who seek to advance liberty and equal rights for all.  That work continues today.   May God continue to bless the United States of America.”

Senator Collins will attend Fourth of July parades tomorrow in Lubec and Jackman.
