The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to give final approval today to the “Consolidated Natural Resources Act,” which includes legislation authored by Senator Susan Collins that would improve Acadia National Park. Specifically, the “Acadia National Park Improvement Act” would extend the Acadia National Park Advisory Commission for 20 additional years, increase the land acquisition ceiling by $10 million, and authorize the Secretary of Interior to participate in and spend appropriated monies for work on an off-island intermodal transportation facility.
“Acadia National Park is a true gem of the Maine coastline. While unsurpassed in beauty, the park’s ecosystem is also very fragile. Unless we are careful, we risk substantial harm to the very place that we Mainers and Americans hold so dear,” said Senator Collins. “This legislation will help make the park stronger and healthier than ever leading up to its centennial anniversary in 2016. I commend Representative Michaud for introducing companion legislation in the House, and for his commitment to improving this precious natural resource.”
The U.S. Senate gave its final approval to this legislation on April 10th. Once passed by the House, it will be sent to the President for his signature.
