Collins, King Announce $1.35 Million Loan to Fish River Rural Health Center to Help Build Medical Facility in Fort Kent

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that Fish River Rural Health Center has received a loan of $1,350,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to support the construction of additional facilities at its Fort Kent location. Fish River Rural Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center and has facilities in Eagle Lake and Fort Kent. The loan was allocated through the USDA’s Community Facilities Direct Loans and Guaranteed Loans program.

“Fish River Rural Health Center provides essential health services for people in Aroostook County,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “This loan from USDA will help address the high demand at Fish River’s Fort Kent facility and ensure that Aroostook County residents can receive the top-quality care they deserve.”

The Community Facilities Direct Loans and Guaranteed Loans Program provides affordable funding to develop community facilities in rural areas. Fish River Health Center provides important services for residents in the Fort Kent region, which has been designated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a Medically Underserved Area for primary care, mental health, and dental health.
