Maine Delegation Urges U.S. Trade Representative to Protect Maine Wild Blueberry Producers as Foreign Competitors Expand into U.S. Markets

WASHINGTON — In support of the blueberry industry and its workers across the state of Maine, U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Angus King (I-ME) joined Representatives Chellie Pingree (ME-01) and Jared Golden (ME-02) in writing to the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) — Ambassador Robert Lighthizer — to urge additional trade protections for Maine’s wild blueberry producers and frozen blueberry processors.

 

Senators Collins, King Announce More Than $700,000 to Increase Safety in Windham/Raymond and Lee School Districts

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced that two Maine school districts have been awarded a total of $703,982 to enhance and further integrate local school violence prevention efforts between school administrators and law enforcement, train law enforcement officers to prevent student violence, install deterrent measures, purchase and install technology for expedited notification of local law enforcement during an emergency, and other measures.

Senators Collins, King Announce $111,603 for Mental Health Resources at York County Sheriff’s Office

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced that the York County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded $111,603 to improve the delivery of and access to mental health and wellness services for law enforcement officers.  This funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act Program.

 

Senator Collins Announces $200,000 to Combat Alzheimer’s Disease in Maine

Partnership Between VA, OnStar Will Increase Access to Suicide Prevention Resources for Veterans

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins commended the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) partnership with OnStar’s emergency services to improve access to suicide prevention resources for veterans.  The partnership will allow veterans in crisis to use the emergency services button in an OnStar-equipped vehicle or the OnStar Guardian smartphone app to be transferred to the VA’s Veterans Crisis Line, which provides around-the-clock, confidential support.
