Senators Collins, King Announce $431,725 for Energy Efficiency in Rural Farms and Small Businesses from Aroostook to York County

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Angus King (I-Maine) announced today that nine rural Maine businesses will receive a total of $431,725 in funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) to purchase, construct and install solar panels or mechanisms to convert wood into pellets. REAP’s grant program, entitled Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Loans and Grants, provides financial assistance to agricultural producers and small businesses to upgrade renewable energy systems in rural areas.

Senator Collins Announces More Than $6.2 Million for Brunswick Executive Airport

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, announced today that Brunswick Executive Airport will receive a total of $6,215,820 for infrastructure improvements.  The funding was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program, which sets aside funding for the Military Airport Program (MAP).

Senator Collins Visits Abbott in Scarborough

Scarborough, ME – U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Aging Committee, visited Abbott in Scarborough, which manufactures many of the rapid influenza tests that are administered throughout the flu season.  Senator Collins toured the facility and spoke with dozens of employees.  She also met with members of the company’s leadership team to discuss how the Scarborough plant worked to meet demand for flu tests due to the spike in seasonal flu in 2017-18 and how the tests it produces help to combat the public health problem of antibiotic resistance.

Senators Collins, King Announce More Than $250,000 to Benefit Local Snowmobile Clubs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a total of $266,199 to three Maine snowmobile clubs through its Rural Business Development Grant program.  This funding will support Maine’s snowmobile industry and help to promote the development of small and emerging businesses in rural areas.

Following Senator Collins’ Leadership, President Signs Executive Order to Help Strengthen Retirement Security

Washington, D.C. – Following a push by U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), the President signed an executive order today that directs the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Treasury to consider issuing regulations and guidance that would make it easier for businesses to offer association retirement plans, also known as multiple employer plans.  This action complements Senator Collins’ legislative efforts to help Americans save for retirement.
